Board Of GOVERNANCE

Cambridge Academy Ethiopia Board of Trustees has overall responsibility for the success of the school.  It delegates responsibility for the day to day running of the school to the Principal, but is responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction of the school and ensuring that the education provided is of the highest quality. 

The current Board of Trustees for Cambridge Academy Ethiopia is made up of a group of local and international experts. A profile of each of these will appear here soon.

The Board of Trustees approves the school budget and oversee its management by the Principal.  It also has a lead role in promoting the school in the community and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The Board of Trustees holds two meetings per term where it receives detailed reports from the Principal about progress against the development plan. The members of the Board of Trustees have the opportunity to ask challenging questions and to make suggestions about future direction.

Members of the Board of Trustees is encouraged to get to know the school through visits and meetings with staff. 

Expectations

The Board of trustees expects that the school will

  • Understand and respect its role and purpose.
  • Recognise the shared commitment to improving the education provided for all students.
  • Respect board members, who bring other skills, experiences and perspectives, and value their contribution.
  • Work openly with the Board of Trustees and provide clear, concise and relevant information on which to base decisions.
  • Contribute to the induction, training and development of Board members.
  • Ensure that where educational jargon is unavoidable it is, at least, explained.

The school owner expects individual board member will

  • Enhance the work of the Board of Trustees.
  • Be a critical friend at meetings but not openly critical in public.
  • Prepare for meetings so that they are well informed, having as a minimum read all the papers sent out with the agenda.
  • Attend meetings and play an active part.
  • Support the school with parents and in the community.
  • Recognize the corporate status of the Board of Trustees and the concept of collective responsibility.
  • Respect confidentiality and the need to act with circumspection.
  • Accept responsibility for their own training and development.

The school expects that the board of trustees will

  • Respect the professional expertise of the Principal and staff.
  • Work openly in partnership with the Principal and staff for the benefit of the school and its students.
  • Demonstrate its commitment, collectively and individually.
  • Act and take decisions that are in the best interests of the school and not those of self, individuals or groups.
  • Support the school with parents and in the community
  • Recognize the need for both board member induction and on-going training and development
