Admissions
At Cambridge Academy Ethiopia, we are proud to offer a fair, inclusive, and transparent admissions process. Our approach is grounded in our core values of equity, respect, and diversity. Admission to the school is open to all applicants, regardless of academic background, nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, or any other factor that could lead to discrimination.
We welcome families to visit the school prior to registration, giving prospective students and parents the opportunity to tour our facilities, meet staff, and experience the vibrant learning environment that defines Cambridge Academy Ethiopia.
Re-enrolment for returning students is conducted annually. We are pleased to re-register students at the next level, provided there are no significant behavioural concerns that would warrant a review of enrolment status. Our commitment is to work closely with families to ensure the continued growth and success of every child.
Importantly, no student is denied admission based on medical conditions. We wholeheartedly welcome students with chronic health needs (including but not limited to diabetes, asthma, congenital heart conditions, epilepsy, or obesity) and are committed to providing the necessary support to ensure their well-being and academic progress.
Inclusive Access
We invite applications from all students residing in Ethiopia who are seeking a high-quality international education within a globally minded learning community.
Our Admissions Policy Is Built on Three Core Principles
Non-Discriminatory Practices
We uphold a strict non-discrimination policy. No student will be denied admission based on personal, academic, or socio-economic background.
Support for Diverse Learners
We welcome and support students with learning difficulties and special educational needs (SEN). Our inclusive classrooms, coupled with tailored support strategies, aim to empower every student to achieve their fullest potential.
At Cambridge Academy Ethiopia, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment. We look forward to welcoming your family to our community.

Other Fees
When joining Cambridge Academy Ethiopia, families should also be aware of additional fees. A $150 application fee is due at the time of submitting an application. This is refundable only if a place is not offered. Once an offer is accepted, a registration deposit of $300 is required to secure the student’s place; this deposit is non-refundable.
Each year, returning students pay a re-registration deposit of $250 to guarantee their place for the following academic year. In addition, the school charges a capital levy to support investment in our facilities. The amount depends on the year of enrolment, ranging from $500 to $1,800 for new students and $250 to $500 for students already enrolled before 2025–26.
Payment of Fees
For returning students, the first term’s tuition must be settled at least two weeks before the start of term, and all registration and levy fees for the following year must be paid before the current school year ends. For new students, all required fees – including application, registration, capital levy, and the first term’s tuition – must be paid prior to the student’s first day at school.
In subsequent terms, tuition must always be paid two weeks before the start of term. Company-sponsored students are required to have the full year’s tuition settled in advance. International students pay in convertible currencies (USD, EUR or GBP), while Ethiopian students pay in Birr with a small portion in USD ($500–$750 depending on year of enrolment).
Discounts
Cambridge Academy Ethiopia offers fee reductions to support families. A sibling discount applies to tuition fees: 5% for a second child, 10% for a third, and 15% for a fourth child. In addition, parents who pay the full annual tuition before the start of the school year receive an early payment discount of 5%. These discounts apply to tuition fees only.
Part-Year Registration
Families joining mid-year will find our approach to fees proportionate. Students enrolling during the first half of a term are liable for the full tuition for that term, while those joining in the second half pay a pro-rated amount. The capital levy is also adjusted: full levy for Term 1 entrants, two-thirds for Term 2, and one-third for Term 3.
Refunds
While registration and re-registration deposits are non-refundable, tuition refunds are possible under certain circumstances. If a student withdraws before the academic year begins, all tuition paid is refunded minus the deposit. For students already enrolled: up to two weeks’ attendance results in one month’s deduction, up to one month’s attendance results in two months’ deduction, and attendance beyond one month requires full payment of the term’s fees. Refunds are calculated from the official date of withdrawal request.
Non-Payment of Fees
In the case of late or non-payment, Cambridge Academy Ethiopia follows a clear policy. If fees remain unpaid six weeks after their due date, students may not attend classes or participate in school events until balances are cleared. Report cards, transfer certificates, and re-registration may also be withheld, although students are never prevented from sitting exams.
We recognise that unforeseen circumstances may create hardship, and families may formally request a payment plan through our finance office. Such requests are considered individually by the school board.
School Readiness
At Cambridge Academy Ethiopia, we recognise that not all children begin school with the same level of readiness. Research shows that areas such as speech and language development, social and emotional maturity, behaviour, and physical development can vary widely. These differences often stem from unmet developmental needs, limited access to early support, and increasing pressures on family life.
We define school readiness as the broad set of skills, knowledge, and attitudes that form the foundation for lifelong learning. A ready child is curious, eager to explore, emotionally resilient, and increasingly independent in their personal care. They are beginning to engage in social play, express themselves, and interact with others confidently.
We focus on four key areas of readiness:
Language and Literacy
Self-Confidence
Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills
Self-Control
Parents play a vital role in nurturing these areas. At Cambridge Academy Ethiopia, we support this development through our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which promotes learning in a nurturing, play-based environment. This approach prepares children emotionally, socially, and academically for the transition into primary school.
School Readiness Assessment
All children applying to our Early Years programme (Nursery, FS1, and FS2) are welcomed without formal entrance tests. However, a gentle school readiness assessment is conducted by qualified academic staff, in collaboration with our Learning Support Team. This assessment:
The purpose is to better understand each child’s individual needs—not to determine admission eligibility, but to tailor our support from day one.
Admission of Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
At CAE, we are proud to offer an inclusive learning environment where all students, including those with mild to moderate special educational needs, are supported to thrive. We provide:
Where a child may require additional support, we may request a tailored readiness assessment to help us prepare the right interventions. In cases where we are unable to meet a child’s needs adequately, we will communicate this transparently and compassionately, always prioritising the child’s best interests.
